Delphine LaLaurie, a prominent member of the wealthy Macarty clan, owned a massive mansion in downtown New Orleans. The wealthy socialite was known to throw extravagant parties for other rich socialites in the city and was well known in the area. However, like many wealthy and powerful individuals whom we discuss, Delphine had a dark secret hiding within the walls of her home.
In the morning hours of April 10th, 1834, a fire breaks out in the LaLaurie mansion. Passerby’s begin to gather as fireman enter the building to assist with extinguishing the flames. As the fireman work their way through the building they stumble upon a terrifying discovery: The mansion has two sets of secret floors and rooms. Within these hidden rooms held something so heinous and macabre it is still talked about today…
