Imagine you are the grand opening of the Chicago Worlds Fair, the apex of modern engineering and architecture put on display with a global audience in the summer of 1893. Millions of people have gathered to marvel at the "White City", the nickname for this years fair. Eager to stay and visit the attractions in the coming weeks and months, you rent a room at a large castle-like building spanning the entirety of the block.
You make your way to your room and settle in when you realize the door behind has locked. Puzzled, you scan the room in search for alternate means of exit but find no other doors and no windows. The room soon begins to fill with gas, choking you and rendering you unconscious.
